CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) — The City of Champaign has announced the schedule for its 2026 Spring Yard Waste Collection. Residents in the Orange and Blue Zones will have two opportunities for curbside pickup, one in April and one in May.

Orange Zone Collection:

  • Monday, April 13

  • Monday, May 11

Blue Zone Collection:

  • Monday, April 20

  • Monday, May 18

Residents should place yard waste in 30-gallon paper bags and have them at the curb by 6 a.m. on the scheduled collection day. Crews will begin collecting on Monday and continue through the week until all materials in the zone are picked up. If items are not collected by the Friday after the scheduled week, residents are encouraged to contact the Public Works Department at 217-403-4700.

Program Guidelines:

  • Only yard waste in 30-gallon paper bags will be collected. No plastic bags or containers.

  • Materials must include leaves, grass clippings, and plant materials; bags with other materials, such as rocks, glass, or pet waste, will not be collected.

  • Twigs and branches (under 2 inches in diameter and 3½ feet long) should be bundled or placed in paper bags.

  • Items should be placed within 10 feet of the curb and 5 feet away from obstacles like trees and mailboxes.

For additional details, residents can visit the City’s Yard Waste Collection page at champaignil.gov/yardwaste or use the Yard Waste Collection Map to check their zone and schedule.

For residents outside of Champaign, or for materials that don’t meet collection guidelines, landscape materials can be taken to the Landscape Recycling Center at 1210 E. University Avenue in Urbana for a fee.
