Champaign County Crime Stoppers seeking public assistance in aggravated battery case

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (Chambana Today) — Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding an aggravated battery incident that took place last week.

On November 17 at approximately 2:35 a.m., Champaign Police responded to the 700 block of North Elm Street after a report was made of a shooting with injuries. When officers arrived on the scene, they located a resident with multiple potentially-life-threatening injuries to the legs. Officers and medical personnel rendered medical aid immediately until the victim could be transported to an area hospital. The victim is still hospitalized with serious injuries.

The investigation indicated that the resident was answering a late-night knock at their door when someone opened fire and the person was struck. Police are actively seeking information and asking anyone with surveillance cameras to review the footage for any suspicious persons or vehicles captured in the area around the time of the incident.
