Champaign Fire Department seeks applicants for Adult Explorers Program

CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) — The Champaign Fire Department is accepting applications for its Adult Explorers Program, offering prospective firefighters a structured path toward a career in the fire service.

The program is designed to educate, mentor, and prepare participants for the firefighter eligibility process, providing job-specific testing preparation, interactive training, and a comprehensive look at what a fire service career entails. The Champaign Fire Department’s Recruitment Team and Human Resources Department are partnering with the City’s Equity and Engagement Department to run the program.

To be eligible, applicants must have a high school diploma or equivalent, reside within Champaign County, and be between 21 and 35 years of age by February 27, 2029, unless otherwise exempt by state statute.

Applications will be accepted through June 22, 2026, and are available on the Champaign Fire Department’s website at champaignil.gov/fire or in person at the City of Champaign Equity and Engagement Department at 205 W.
