CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (Chambana Today) — A cherished holiday tradition returns as the Baroque Artists of Champaign-Urbana (BACH) invites the community to join in their annual “Messiah Sing-along” on Sunday, November 30, 2025, at 4:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Savoy (1602 S. Prospect Ave.). This spirited event gives singers of all levels the opportunity to perform seven of Handel’s most famous choruses, culminating in the rousing and iconic “Hallelujah!”

The Messiah Sing-along is a beloved tradition that brings together local music enthusiasts, offering both singers and listeners a chance to enjoy the beauty and power of Handel’s masterpiece. Attendees are encouraged to bring their friends and family for an evening of festive music-making, but even those who prefer to simply listen can enjoy the concert from a separate seating area.

The event is free, with seating unassigned but grouped by voice part. Participants are welcome to bring their own music scores, or they can borrow one at the door. After the music, a cookie buffet will be available for attendees to enjoy.

Leading the singing will be BACH Music Director Sarah Riskind, with accompaniment provided by Jonathan Young on the organ. Soloists for the event will include Elena Negruta (soprano), Olusegun Soyemi (alto), Ethan Yoder (tenor), and Philip Phillips (bass).

While no ticket is required, a freewill offering will be collected to support future BACH performances. Doors open at 3:30 p.m. for early arrivals.

BACH continues its concert season with the upcoming “Winter Comfort” on March 8, 2026, which will feature an hour of reflective and calming music from various time periods. The season will close with a concert on May 31, 2026, titled “As the Deer Longs,” focused on the text of Psalm 42. Additionally, BACH has been invited to open the Five Cities Baroque Festival on June 16, 2026, with further details to be announced.

In its 29th season, BACH is a non-profit organization that specializes in Baroque music but performs a wide variety of works across all periods. The group consists of more than 40 volunteer musicians, including both amateurs and professionals. Sarah Riskind is in her fifth year leading the ensemble.
