CUPHD Food Inspection Report: November 24 – November 30

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (Chambana Today) — The Champaign-Urbana Public Health Department conducts routine inspections on restaurants and kitchens across the city, and this past week conducted 12 inspections. Chambana Today has compiled all of the inspections from the past week, with 11 businesses being rated green, and one being upgraded to yellow following a red rating.

Here’s a look at all of the inspections from the past week:

GREEN

  • Centennial H.S. Concessions (Indoor), 913 South Crescent Drive, Champaign, IL. Inspected November 24
  • Wild Hare Bar & Grill, 109 South Third Street, Fisher, IL. Inspected November 24
  • Green Street Cafe, 35 East Green Street, Champaign, IL. Inspected November 24
  • Biaggi’s Ristorante Italiano, 2235 South Neil Street, Champaign, IL. Inspected November 24
  • Pia’s Sports Bar & Grill, 1609 West Springfield Avenue, Champaign, IL. Inspected November 24
  • McKinley Food Pantry @ Garden Hills Elementary, 2001 Garden Hills Drive, Champaign, IL. Inspected November 25
  • San Maru, 2504 Village Green Plaza, Champaign, IL. Inspected November 25
  • Chinatown Buffet, 713 Marketview Drive, Champaign, IL. Inspected November 25
  • Haute Boxx (Commissary) @ Trax Pub, 4 East Holden Street, Tolono, IL. Inspected November 26
  • Wood N’ Hog Barbeque, 500 North Walnut Street, Suit 110, Champaign, IL. Inspected November 26
  • Filippo’s Pizza & Italian Food, 2112 Tin Cup Road, Mahomet, IL. Inspected November 26

San Maru’s inspection was a follow-up inspection following violations of date marking foods.

YELLOW

  • Sushi Man, 2028 North Prospect Avenue, Champaign, IL. Inspected November 26, 2025
    • This inspection was a re-inspection following Sushi Man being given a red placard after a November 7 inspection.
    • The re-inspection was to address supervision, preventing contamination by hands, protection from contamination, time/temperature control for safety, consumer advisory, food/color additives and toxic substances, food identification, prevention of food contamination, proper use of utensils, and physical facilities violations.
    • The business’s placard will remain yellow until a follow-up inspection is successfully completed approximately 10 business days from November 26.

RED

  • None

What do the ratings mean?

Following an inspection, all businesses serving food in Champaign-Urbana are required to post placards displaying their grades in a location clearly visible to the public. The meaning of the grades are as follows:

  • A green grade means that “the food establishment was found to be in satisfactory compliance with the ordinance and applicable rules and regulations.”
  • A yellow grade denotes “less than satisfactory compliance.” Following posting of a yellow placard, businesses have the opportunity to improve compliance, with a follow-up inspection required to verify improvement to a satisfactory level.
  • A red grade means the establishment is “out of compliance with the ordinance and applicable rules and regulations to the extent that it poses an immediate threat to public health, or a failure to act, resulting in health permit suspension (e.g., did not pay health permit fee).”
