DANVILLE, Ill. (Chambana Today) — The Danville Fire Department (DFD) will be holding several training sessions in mid-December. DFD Training Captain Ryan states,

“This training will enhance the skills and readiness of firefighters serving Danville and surrounding communities,” Training Captain Ryan stated.

Captain Allison added: “The Danville Fire Department appreciates the community’s support as we train to better serve you. The public may observe this training from a clearly marked safe viewing area.”

He also noted that nearby residents might notice temporary brown discoloration of water caused by sediment stirred up in water lines during the live-fire events. This usually clears within 2–8 hours without the need for continuous flushing.

December 16-17: Roof Operations Training — Chandler & Grant Streets

On December 16 and 17, the Danville Fire Department, along with firefighters from nearby departments, will participate in advanced fireground training in the 500 blocks of Chandler and Grant Streets in Danville.

This training will be provided by Soda City Training from South Carolina, a nationally recognized fire service training organization. The course focuses on roof operations, and will include the use of chainsaws and work on rooftops of houses to simulate realistic fireground scenarios.

Residents in and around the area should expect to see fire department vehicles, firefighters working on rooftops, and hear chainsaw noise and other training-related activity during the day. There is no cause for alarm, as this is a scheduled training event aimed at improving firefighter safety and effectiveness.

December 18: Live-For Training — 1008 North Jackson Street

On December 18, the DFD will hold live-fire training at 1008 North Jackson Street in Danville for new recruits attending the Champaign Fire Academy, as required by the State of Illinois.

The realistic training helps prepare firefighters to safely protect residents and property. Neighbors may see smoke during the exercise. Only clean wood pallets will be burned, meaning that carpet, plastic, or other synthetic materials will be burned, and any necessary asbestos abatement has been completed. The training complies with Illinois Environmental Protection Agency regulations.
