CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) — Developmental Services Center (DSC) will join organizations across the nation in celebrating National Direct Support Professionals (DSP) Recognition Week, taking place September 7–13, by honoring the essential workers who support individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities throughout Champaign and Ford counties.
To launch the week of celebration, Champaign Mayor Deborah Frank Feinen will issue an official proclamation recognizing DSP Week during a public reading on Monday, September 8 at 8:30 a.m. at DSC’s headquarters, located at 1304 W. Bradley Ave. The proclamation commends DSPs for their commitment to empowering individuals to live, work, and thrive in their communities.
“DSPs are truly the heart of the work we do,” said Danielle Matthews, Chief Executive Officer at DSC. “This week honors our DSPs who are dedicated to supporting people live with greater independence and opportunity. We are celebrating their efforts that make a lasting difference not only for the people we support, but for their families, and the greater community.”
At DSC, Direct Support Professionals play a vital role — from helping with daily living and personal care, to encouraging independence and facilitating community involvement. Their work helps individuals achieve goals and lead self-determined lives.
Founded with a mission to help individuals live rich and meaningful lives, DSC provides services to approximately 1,200 children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Champaign and Ford counties. As a nonprofit, the organization collaborates closely with those it supports, building services around individual strengths, preferences, and goals.
