URBANA, Ill. (Chambana Today) — The Urbana Fire Department responded early Wednesday to a structure fire at a building in the 1000 block of North Goodwin Avenue.

Fire crews were dispatched at approximately 6:17 a.m. after a passerby reported a large amount of smoke coming from the building. Engine 253, stationed on Bradley Avenue, arrived first and observed smoke coming from a second-floor window, confirming an active structure fire. The building was believed to be vacant at the time of the incident.

Firefighters gained access to the structure and began searching for the source of the fire while additional units established a water supply and assisted with suppression efforts. The fire was located on the second floor and was brought under control within 30 minutes.

Crews conducted a thorough search to confirm no occupants were inside and completed extensive overhaul operations to ensure the fire was fully extinguished. Approximately 25 Urbana Fire Department personnel responded to the incident, remaining on scene for about three and a half hours.

The Urbana Fire Department Investigation Team is conducting an investigation into the cause of the fire, which remains undetermined. No injuries were reported.
