PESOTUM, Ill. (Chambana Today) — The Illinois State Police (ISP) Troop 7 has released the results of its Nighttime Enforcement (NITE) patrols conducted in Vermilion and Macon Counties during September, reporting a total of 49 citations and 42 written warnings issued during overnight traffic enforcement.

The targeted patrols took place between 9:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m., focusing on impaired driving, seatbelt usage, and other common nighttime violations.

While no drivers were cited for Driving Under the Influence (DUI) or drug-related offenses, 20 citations were issued for occupant restraint violations, making it the most common offense. ISP also reported 16 registration offenses, 10 driver’s license violations, and 6 insurance-related citations.

The NITE program is designed to enhance road safety during late hours, when data shows fatal crashes are more likely to occur. According to ISP, over half of all fatal crashes in Illinois happen at night, and alcohol or drug impairment is a factor in more than 47% of those incidents.

The patrols were funded by the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) as part of ongoing statewide efforts to reduce traffic-related injuries and fatalities.

For more information about traffic safety initiatives or to report dangerous driving, the public can contact the Illinois State Police or visit isp.illinois.gov.
