Man killed in early-morning shooting in Urbana; police seek suspect

URBANA, Ill. (Chambana Today) — Police are searching for a suspect after a man was fatally shot early Tuesday morning in Urbana.

Officers were called to the 1200 block of Ellis Drive at 1:48 a.m. after receiving a report of a shooting with injuries, according to the Urbana Police Department. An adult male suffering from a gunshot wound was found at the scene and transported to Carle Foundation Hospital, where he later died. The victim’s identity has not yet been released, pending notification of next of kin.

The suspected shooter was not on scene when officers arrived.

Urbana detectives and Illinois State Police Crime Scene Investigators remained on the scene Tuesday morning as the investigation continued.

Police are asking anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident, witnessed suspicious activity, or has surveillance or video footage that may be relevant to contact the Urbana Police Department. Anyone with information is asked to call 217-384-2320.
