CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (Chambana Today) – Illinois forward David Mirkovic has been named Big Ten Freshman of the Week for the second straight week, the conference office announced on Monday. The honor comes after Mirkovic delivered another standout performance in leading the No. 8 Fighting Illini to two impressive victories during the week of November 10-16.

Mirkovic has averaged a double-double with 19 points and 12.5 rebounds over the two games. He also made history by recording the first 20-point, 20-rebound game by an Illinois player in 53 years during a win over Colgate. Mirkovic finished that game with career highs of 27 points and 21 rebounds, adding three assists in the process. His 21 rebounds not only helped secure the victory but also set the Illini freshman single-game rebounding record, surpassing the previous mark of 17.

In addition to his historic performance against Colgate, Mirkovic also contributed in Illinois’ win over No. 11 Texas Tech, scoring 11 points, grabbing four rebounds, and recording two steals in a well-rounded effort.

On Wednesday, November 19, Mirkovic and Illinois will face No. 11 Alabama at the United Center in Chicago. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m. CT, and tickets are available online at ticketmaster.com.
