MONTICELLO, IL (Chambana Today) — Piatt County 4-H members are taking action against hunger by hosting a community meal-packing event on Saturday, February 28, from 9 to 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 214 S. Charter St. in Monticello.

The event is made possible through a $1,000 Food Advocacy Grant awarded to Piatt County 4-H. In partnership with Illini Fighting Hunger, volunteers will work together to package 5,000 meals for distribution to organizations serving families facing food insecurity across Illinois.

Food insecurity remains a pressing issue throughout the state, and organizers say the project empowers local youth to make a direct and meaningful impact in their communities. Meals packed during Illini Fighting Hunger events are distributed to food pantries and food banks serving thousands of residents.

Past recipients of meals from Illini Fighting Hunger initiatives include:

  • River Bend Food Bank
  • Eastern Illinois Foodbank
  • Wesley Evening Food Pantry
  • West Suburban Community Pantry
  • Midwest Food Bank
  • Newman Shares Food Pantry

Community members interested in learning more about the event can contact Anne Reinbold at 217-762-2191 or anner3@illinois.edu.
