CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) — A semi-truck lost control on Interstate 74 eastbound on Monday, striking several concrete barriers and traffic control equipment before coming to rest on a grassy overpass, prompting the temporary closure of the ramp from I-57 southbound to I-74 eastbound.

The incident occurred at milepost 179 when the red truck tractor pulling a white trailer experienced an unknown mechanical issue, causing the driver to lose control. The vehicle veered right, striking six concrete temporary construction barriers, a merge sign with post on the ramp from I-57 southbound to I-74 eastbound, and a metal reflective post before coming to a stop on the grassy overpass south of I-74, facing I-57.

The ramp from I-57 southbound to I-74 eastbound is currently closed while a tow company works to remove the vehicle. The closure is expected to last at least a couple of hours. Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes.
