PIATT COUNTY, Ill. (Chambana Today) — A semi-truck driver was killed in a crash early Tuesday morning on Interstate 74, according to the Illinois State Police. The incident occurred when the driver’s truck went off the highway, struck a tree, and caught fire. Trooper Jayme Bufford confirmed that the crash involved only the semi, with no other vehicles involved. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. At the time of the crash, westbound traffic is still restricted to one lane as authorities work to clear the site and investigate the cause of the accident. Motorists in the area are advised to expect delays.
