CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) — Strong winds moving through Central Illinois on Sunday led to scattered power outages across multiple communities.

According to Ameren Illinois outage data, several hundred customers were without electricity Sunday evening as storms pushed across the area.

As of about 7:12 p.m., roughly 535 customers in Tuscola were without power. Nearby in Villa Grove, about 55 customers were experiencing outages around 7:20 p.m.

Ameren also reported around 135 customers west of Longview lost power around 7:25 p.m.

Earlier in the day, outages were also reported in Macon County. Officials said tree damage caused outages on East Cantrell Street and near Lost Bridge Road in Decatur, impacting about 26 customers combined.

Other scattered outages were reported south of East Faries Parkway and near Richland Community College. Crews were still working to determine the cause of some outages and when power would be restored.

In Effingham County, nearly 300 customers in Beecher City lost power after tree damage around 9:50 a.m. Ameren estimated service could return by mid-afternoon.

Meanwhile, smaller outage clusters were also reported Sunday afternoon in Mahomet, Champaign, Bondville and Mira.

The outages came as powerful winds swept across Central Illinois, with forecasters warning that tree damage and additional outages could continue as storms move through the region.
