CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (Chambana Today) — Three people were arrested on Friday afternoon after being found in possession of a loaded firearm near a Culver’s restaurant in Champaign. Illinois State Police officials reported that the arrests took place around 2:43 p.m. near the intersection of Neil Street and Windsor Road. The suspects, identified as 25-year-old Kaniya Campbell, 23-year-old Rishion Frazier, and 21-year-old Kyren Darnell, were in an SUV when they were taken into custody.

All three individuals face charges of aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon. According to court records, they did not possess valid Firearm Owner’s Identification (FOID) cards.

Campbell and Frazier appeared in court earlier this week, with both being released on bond. Their next court dates are set for January 21 and February 10, respectively. Darnell was also released but has not yet faced a judge.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing, as police continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the gun recovery.
