CHAMPAIGN COUNTY, IL (Chambana Today) — Community members are invited to take part in the Trooper Thompsen Memorial 5K run and walk on Saturday, June 13, an event held in honor of Illinois State Trooper Corey Thompsen, who was killed in the line of duty in Champaign County on Oct. 18, 2024.

The event will run from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. and brings participants together to remember Thompsen while supporting a charitable cause in his name.

All proceeds from the 5K will benefit the Trooper Corey S. Thompsen Memorial Fund at the Community Foundation of East Central Illinois, a 501(c)(3) organization that provides scholarships and supports local charitable projects.

Organizers say the memorial run and walk is intended to honor Thompsen’s service while giving the community an opportunity to contribute to ongoing educational and outreach efforts in his memory.
