Two injured in Friday collision in Hensley Township

HENSLEY TOWNSHIP, Ill. (Chambana Today) — Champaign County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a two-vehicle crash Friday afternoon in the 4700-block of North Market Street in Hensley Township. The incident occurred around 3:51 p.m. and resulted in serious injuries to one driver and non-life-threatening injuries to another.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the crash involved a small gray sedan driven by an 18-year-old woman from Downers Grove. The vehicle was traveling southbound on Market Street when the driver attempted to pass another southbound car by entering the northbound lane. While doing so, she collided head-on with a white Dodge Caravan driven by a 64-year-old woman from Newman, who was traveling northbound in her lane.

The driver of the Dodge Caravan was transported to a nearby hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening. The 18-year-old driver of the sedan had to be extricated from her vehicle by emergency personnel and was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries. Authorities say she is expected to survive.

The crash remains under investigation.
