CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) — Two juveniles were taken into custody Friday morning following reports of armed individuals near the Garden Hills neighborhood, according to the Champaign Police Department.

Officers responded at 7:18 a.m. after multiple 911 calls reported armed subjects in the area, with some callers claiming shots had been fired. Police located two juveniles matching the descriptions near a home on the 1600 block of Hedge Road and recovered a firearm consistent with the reports.

Due to their ages, authorities did not release the juveniles’ identities or details on preliminary charges. Garden Hills Academy was placed on a brief “secure hold,” which was lifted by 7:55 a.m. No evidence of gunfire, injuries, or property damage was found, and police remain in the area gathering additional evidence and video.

At the same time, officers were conducting a separate investigation on Joanne Lane, serving a search warrant related to an unrelated case. No further details were released.
