CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (Chambana Today) — Champaign Unit 4 Schools will kick off the 2025–2026 academic year with two community-centered events on Wednesday, August 13, highlighting themes of school pride and inclusion.

At Centennial High School, students will be welcomed back with the school’s annual “clap-in” celebration, where staff, families, and community members line the entrance to cheer students on as they arrive for their first full day of classes. The event begins at 7:30 a.m. at 913 Crescent Drive.

Later in the day, Central High School will host a special unveiling of its new “You Belong” mural, a public art piece designed to celebrate diversity, belonging, and student identity. The unveiling will take place from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at 610 W. University Avenue.

Unit 4 officials say both events reflect the district’s ongoing commitment to fostering a welcoming and inclusive school environment.
