URBANA, IL (Chambana Today) – The City of Urbana will hold its first Community Engagement event for the Alternative Response Task Force (ARTF) on Friday, May 1, at 5:30 p.m. in City Council Chambers at 400 South Vine Street.

The meeting will feature a presentation from the Law Enforcement Action Partnership (LEAP), which will share comparative findings from more than 85 cities and provide an analysis of Urbana’s own 911 response data.

Following the presentation, the session will move into a townhall-style dialogue, giving residents the opportunity to discuss and provide input on the future of alternative public safety in Urbana. City officials emphasized that public participation is crucial in shaping strategies that meet community needs.

The ARTF initiative aims to explore alternatives to traditional police responses, ensuring public safety approaches are effective, equitable, and responsive to residents.
