Urbana police arrest man after shots fired at apartment complex

URBANA, IL (Chambana Today) — Urbana police arrested a 20-year-old man after a shooting incident in the 1000 block of east Kerr Avenue left no one injured but caused property damage.

At approximately 12:42 p.m. on May 21, 2026, officers were dispatched after multiple calls reported gunfire in the area. Deputies from the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office assisted in securing the scene.

Authorities determined that numerous rounds had struck vehicles, playground equipment, and an apartment building, but no individuals were hit. During the investigation, officers identified a residence of interest and recovered a firearm.

Kenyon Dunn of Urbana was taken into custody and charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm, felon in possession of a weapon, and possession of a machine gun or automatic weapon. Police say the investigation is ongoing and are asking anyone with surveillance footage or relevant information to contact the Urbana Police Department or submit an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers.

The department reminded the public that all individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
