URBANA, Ill. (Chambana Today) — Urbana police are investigating a shooting that occurred in the 1400 block of Eads Street on Tuesday morning.

Officers were dispatched around 9:47 a.m. after multiple calls reported shots fired in the area. Authorities from the Champaign Police Department and University of Illinois Police Department also responded to assist.

No individuals were struck by gunfire, but multiple structures were impacted, including nearby townhouses at Hamilton on the Park and Booker T. Washington STEM Academy. As a precaution, the school was placed on lockdown to ensure the safety of students and staff.

Police reported that witnesses saw a dark-colored SUV leave the area at a high rate of speed. Preliminary information, including video surveillance, indicates that three unidentified individuals exited the vehicle before the shots were fired and returned afterward.
