URBANA, IL (Chambana Today) — The Urbana School District has received a $336,000 federal grant to develop a Community School at Dr. Williams Elementary, expanding programs and services for students, families, and the surrounding East Urbana community.

The funding will support expanded learning opportunities including academic enrichment and after-school programming, family engagement initiatives such as adult education and job training access, and connections to health, wellness, and social services.

“This grant represents an important investment in our students and families,” said Superintendent Dr. Ivory-Tatum. “Community schools are built on a foundation of collaboration, connection, and support. This funding will allow the District to create an environment where the youth in our community thrive, but also provide more opportunities for the entire East Urbana community to thrive.”

Beginning July 1, current Dr. Williams Elementary Principal Danielle Jackson will transition to a new Community School Program Administrator role, where she will focus on developing and implementing the district’s community school model. Assistant Principal Derrius Hightower will serve as interim principal for the 2026-27 school year.
