CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (Chambana Today) — Next month, the historic Virginia Theatre will be holding a screening of a comedy classic.

On Saturday, February 7, at 1 and 7 p.m., screenings of the 1972 classic screwball comedy ‘What’s Up Doc?’ starring Barbra Streisand, Ryan O’Neal, and Madeline Kahn will be on the big screen. A mix-up of misadventures caused by four people having identical plaid overnight bags at the same San Francisco results in the bags being repeatedly and accidentally swapped and stolen, involving two hotel thieves, a government agent, and a cast of characters. Chaos builds, leading to a massive slapstick chase scene through the streets of San Francisco down Lombard Street, through a parade in Chinatown, and eventually into the San Francisco Bay.

The screening is part of the News-Gazette Film Series. For over 20 years, the newspaper has sponsored screenings of beloved classic films at the Virginia Theatre.
